Some of the guidelines and recommendations have been updated since the forum. The medical organizations/advisory boards have amended the breast cancer screening guidelines and the term breast self-exam has been changed to breast self-awareness.

Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines for Women

The recommendations differ and may be confusing therefore “Remember know your body and know your risk”. Make an informed and shared decision with a trusted health care practitioner.

In addition to being doctors and scientists, the 2014 BFF panelists are caregivers, survivors, health advocates, daughters of cancer thrivers/angels, and first foremost women when you remove all titles and accolades. Here is some advice that they live by to maintain their own personal health and wellness or would share with another woman.

“Everyone, including the uninsured and the underinsured should be given quality breast health care. We should work together to eliminate disparities in breast cancer treatment, especially in the African-American population.” – Dr. Robertson

“Know and learn your body. Don’t be afraid to speak about changes you notice with your body. It could save your life.”  – Dr. Yancy
